2012 Has Arrived… Resolution Time!!!

13 01 2012

It has been a while…  a long while. So as the New Year starts and resolutions are naturally (almost forcefully) whirling through our minds, I can’t help but hope to rejuvenate and make some game changing moves. None as bold as the Cammalleri trade, but little things like… avoid run on sentences, use ‘…’ less when I write, finish a full glass of beer, wear nicer pyjamas to bed (right now its oversized concert t-shirts and fluorescent capris)… blog more.  Okay fine, maybe they aren’t ‘game changing’ per-se, but at least they are attainable.

Last year I had made a huge list of resolutions. Learn to speak French, take lessons in a winter sport… snowboarding, and a summer sport… tennis,  bikram yoga 3x a week, read 1 book a week. I may as well have written ‘climb mt kili’ or ‘save all of the children of Haiti.’  I had so many things on my list, I spent more time rearranging the time frames and scheduling this stupid list than I did actually tackling it.

With every year that passes, I may not follow through with my resolutions, but I do feel like I gain a little wisdom. This year as I have just begun my 32nd year of life, my goals are simple, cheesy yes, but simple nonetheless.  Make time to do lots of nothing, recognize everything that I do already and do more of it since I obviously enjoy it.  Eat more burgers, drink more wine. Appreciate my fabulous life.

Go Heat Go!

Present day… On Route to My Birthplace… London Town

10 06 2011

Now that I have somewhat brought you up to speed on all of my 2010 excitement, I can share what’s happening right now! First I want to say Happy Birthday to my amazing husband; his birthday was actually yesterday June 9, but it’s my blog so whateves.

Farhan and I are sitting on a plane on our way to London. We are about to start our one month adventure in Europe. Fasten your seat belts kids…. it’s about to get crazy up in hurrr!! (Don’t judge me because I still like to talk like I’m 17 from the hood). The plan is to start out in London for a few days to spend some time with good friends and see my old home as I did live there a few years ago. Then we are off to Turkey for two weeks so we can experience firsthand what everyone is always raving about when they visit this place. This part of the trip will also be the honeymoon that Farhan and I still need to have. After Turkey we are off to Portugal for a week. First stop in Cascais to see my girl Aliyah get married to Farouq. After the wedding a bunch of us friends from the wedding will spend a few days in the Algarve with our friends. The trip will end with a couple of days in London again and then back to c-town!

At this exact moment I am listening to the most brilliant 80’s music on the planet mixed by my cousin DJ Bounce (mark my words… he will be crazy famous for his talent one day. Check it out –www.djbounce.ca). I love long flights at night because I actually get to just chill out and do some of my favourite things without any outside distractions from twitter to bbm, live profile, whatsapp, face time, email… so basically my phone. One of my favourite things to do is watch movies. Farhan and I could watch movies all day! He is a film maker so I guess that’s fitting for him. He is in movie bliss right now – on demand in the air! It doesn’t get any better than that!!

So since we are on the topic of movies, I am going to share with you the movie that I just watched on this flight which I’m sure you will most certainly hassle me about, but I’m secure in myself, I can take it….

Hi my name is Farah Kanani Daya, I’m 31 years old and I just watched ‘Justin Bieber – Never Say Never!!’ I’m not sure what Siskel would have said, but I am confident that Ebert would give it two thumbs up. Granted I am a Bieber fan by nature so it was an easy pick for me, but for those of you who think you are too grown up or mature for Justin, I urge you to reconsider. I even got my movie critic husband to watch it and he was pleasantly surprised (please don’t be mad Hussein Juma. He still likes blood and guts too). This was really just a success story documented… who wouldn’t want to see that! It was entertaining, inspirational, eye-opening and dare I say I even shed a tear or two.

We have about four hours of this flight left so I am going to try to get some shut-eye. Need to fight the jet lag from now because I definitely need to be awake for Saturday night in London!

Playing Catch Up… What happened to 2010??

10 06 2011

Finally…. after over a year and a half of  craziness– I have found some time to sit down and do what I love to do… babble on paper.  You know my purpose when I started ‘blogging’ was to document all of the awesomeness that happens in my life… so I can remember… so I don’t forget. It started out as a travel blog and then I realized that awesomeness doesn’t just happen when I’m away from home – it happens every day (gawd I missed sharing my cheesiness with the world) ;). Ironically though, the only times I’ve truly had time to write is when I am away… sitting on a plane (like I am right now) or sitting on a beach… or stuck at my hotel because I am sick with ‘stomach issues’ while my travel partners are frolicking in the sun.

This past year has been positively insane for me – it was so document worthy that I didn’t even have a minute to do it. Actually that’s not entirely true… 2010 was the year of television really and most of my free time was taken up watching great TV. 😉

Seriously though, as you know from my last few entries, in November 2009, I got engaged to my now husband! Yep yep can you believe that we actually survived a dreadful 8 months of wedding planning hell? Honestly, if I had documented all of the drama that one has to deal with while wedding planning, you would have questioned why the hell I was doing it and even more I may have talked you out of ever wanting to do it yourself.

What I do want you to know is that no matter how hellish wedding planning is, it really is all worth it in the end. My wedding day was truly magical! Every single thing about it….  even having to wake up at 6:00am to get my hair done was worth the day we had. Perfect! And in the end… I got to get all dressed up to marry my beautiful love Farhan (cue violin).

So what else can I tell you about amazing 2010 up until today. There is just so much to say. I got to witness relationships go from ‘fast friends’ to “will you marry me?” to “I do” to “oooh shiiit we’re having a baby” to “omg. we have a baby – now what do we do?’” I kid you not, all of these things happened in this last year! I started my new job after doing what I did before for 10 years. It was a big move in my small town world. It’s been so busy but I love it! I discovered my deep love for basketball (watching, not playing) which I am sure you will hear me talk about in the entries to come. This year has been so crazy… yet I still found time for Modern Family – best comedy of 2010!!
